Drafting the Cult Gaia inspired Top

The sewing pattern for making the Cult Gaia inspired halter top is just a single piece of pattern. The following body measurements are needed:

  • front length (from neck to underbust)

  • around fullest part of bust

  • shoulder length

  • armhole height

With these body measurements, you can draft the sewing pattern for making a Cult Gaia inspired halter crop top that fits your body grossly. As with all sewing projects, every body is a little different and you may need to make some adjustments with your first draft.

Sewing the Cult Gaia inspired Top

To make one top, you need to cut 4 with your MAIN and 4 with your LINING fabric. If you have watched my video on making this top, you’ll know I made some mistakes along the way. From my experience making the top, here’s my revised steps for sewing the Cult Gaia inspired crop top:

RS = right side(s)
WS = wrong side(s)

  1. Finish side seam of LINING with double-fold hem. Do this for all 4 LINING pieces.

  2. Place MAIN fabric RS together. Sew ~2 5/8” from edge of armhole for MAIN fabric. Backstitch.

  3. Sew 2 LINING pieces with 2 MAIN pieces, RS together along the armhole, neck, front, and bottom. Avoid sewing the channels shut.

  4. Clip seam allowance and turn top inside out.

  5. Understitch along armhole, neck, front, and bottom. Avoid sewing the channels shut.

  6. Make tie channels by sewing through MAIN and LINING pieces. Check that the channels are open and not sewn shut by accident.

  7. Sew embroider details along armhole edge

  8. Make bias ties of ~128”. Use half of this for the neck and half for the underbust ties.
