8 Hooded Jackets To Sew This Spring (+ free pattern)!

Growing up in Singapore, I have only ever experienced 2 types of weather: rain or shine. If it's not hot like summer, then we have the wet monsoon rain. Almost everything I have ever sewn is designed for the warm tropical sun. But since moving to Texas in the middle of winter in 2020 (and experiencing a historic winter snow storm), I am now feeling really excited about the prospect of spring. To be spring ready, I am planning to sew a hooded jacket to protect myself from the cold wind and rain. During my search for THE hooded jacket to fit my style and my needs, I found a few fantastic hooded jacket sewing patterns that are perfect for spring and thought I would share them with everyone too. Here are 8 hooded jackets you can sew this spring!

8 Hooded Jackets to Sew this Spring

Serra Jacket by Pauline Alice

Cost: 10.00
Size range: 32.5" - 46" chest

Design details:
✔ pockets
✔ lining
✔ optional hood

I really really like this jacket. I love how there's so much design option in a single pattern. There's a feminine version with a cinched waist, a very 80's sporty version with elasticised sleeves and hem, and even a chic rain trench coat design.

Unfortunately, the yardage required for this pattern is a little more than what I have available, so this is not the hooded jacket pattern I am sewing this spring.

The Landgate by Merchant and Mills

(via)

Cost: £14.50
Size range: 114.5 - 124.5 cm (finished measurement for chest)

Design details:
✔ pockets
✗ lining
✗ optional hood

This is a classic, unisex hooded jacket with side and front pocket options. I love the version that is made with oilskin shown on the pattern page, and there's a certain charm to this minimalistic and slightly rugged style.

However, I am personally not a fan of the pullover jacket. I like the convenience of a jacket with a front zipper so I can take it on or off easily throughout the day.

Arare Pullover by Waffle Patterns

(via)

(via)

Cost: 11.80
Size range: 92.5 - 128.5cm" (finished measurement for chest)

Design details:
✔ pockets
✗ lining
✔ optional hood

If you like the pullover style but want more design options in a single hooded jacket sewing pattern, the Arare Pullover might be a better option. It comes with 2 pocket design options and also has the option of a high neck collar in place of a hood. More importantly, the Arare Pullover is also designed for a wider range of sizes!

Kennedy Hooded Top by Style ARC

(via)

Cost: $17.00 AUD
Size range: 30.3 - 58.25" chest

Design details:

✗ lining
✗ optional hood

Here is another pullover pattern and this design screams athleisure chic! If you want to start venturing into sewing with knits or want to up your "Netflix and Chill" style at home, you should definitely consider this pattern!

Boréale The Windbreaker by Studio Calicot

(via)

(via)

Cost: $10.00 CAD
Size range: 33 - 41" chest

Design details:
✔ pockets
✗ lining
✗ optional hood

The Boréale is designed to be a lightweight windbreaker jacket that can be folded away easily between use. I like the batwing sleeves and how it can be worn like a cropped jacket with the elasticised hem around the waist.

Andji Jacket by Shelby

(via)

Cost: 12.90€
Size range: 80 - 107cm chest

Design details:
✔ pockets
✗ lining
✔ optional hood

I was really surprised to come across the Andji jacket by Shelby during my search. They specialise in extreme gear for people who love the outdoors (i.e. not me). But if you are looking into challenging yourself and making a technical winter outerwear, this is the place to go!

At the moment, it seems like Shelby only offers the pattern as a printed copy only. If you only want PDF patterns and really want to dip your toes in some cool winter gear sewing, don't forget to check out their free patterns that are available for download too!

Glide Jacket by MadeIt Patterns

Size range: 31 - 44" chest
Cost: £12.00

Design details:
✔ pockets
✔ lining
✔ optional hood

Okay, this is my favourite hooded jacket that I found and this is also THE pattern I am sewing this spring! There's something about the slitted hem and the sharp, diagonal seams on the front that calls to me. I also love the front zipper closure, the optional hood design, and the seemingly endless fabric options for making this jacket!
